Journal de la Société Nationale d'Horticulture de France, 1905, 4e série, Tome VI, p. 375; 1908, 4e série, Tome IX, p. 655. ; 1922, Tome XXIII, p. 215; note: listed as introduced in 1903.
From G. G. Whitelegg catalog, 1921: ORIFLAMME (Vilmorin). A strikingly fine variety for massing as it is a sturdy grower and very free flowering. (S) brilliant pure blue; (F) deeper blue purple.
 
From H. P. Simpson catalog, 1922: ORIFLAMME (Vilmorin, 1914) — S. light-blue; F. rich violet-purple. Somewhat early and enormous, handsome blooms; one of the largest of irises. 22-26 inch. 50¢.
From Indian Spring Farms catalog, 1927: ORIFLAMME (Vilmorin 1904) 7.8. One of the largest of the older Irises, on the order of Amas. The large, broad standards are dark lavender, and the long, drooping falls are hortense-violet, shading to white at the haft. A beautiful flower but lacking in substance in comparison with the newer introductions. 30 inches. 50 cts. each, $1.25 for 3, $4.00 per doz.
