'Scarlet Ribbon' ( Chet Tompkins, R. 1966). Sdlg. Seedling# 61-117A. TB, 38" (97 cm), Early lateseason bloom. Color Class-R1D, Scarlet red self. Involved red sdlg. seedling lines X 'Mile Post'. Fleur de Lis 1966.
SCARLET RIBBON (Tompkins '66) E.L. 38 in. From a W. S. Snyder red sdlg. involving Souv. Michaud, Tenebrae, Geo. Tribolet, Sturtevant, Nene, Nishnabotna x Ossar, x Campfire Glow, x Moulin Rouge x Manana, x Milepost. A huge, well formed, very broadly petaled red, probably the most vivid in the Scarlet red class. Shows its pink blood too, in having a bright pinkish orange undertone that makes its scarlet coloring fairly shout. So huge and bright that it immediately becomes a focal point for every visitor. Tall, strong, well branched stalks. Seems to perform well most anywhere. Mr. Gaulter and Mr. Luihn say it performs extra well there in California and we have had fine reports from Texas, Arizona, Alabama, etc., so it appears that here is one more red that will perform well throughout the southern states, where reds as a rule do rather poorly. No. 61-117A. Net 25.00. [Fleur De Lis Gardens, Canby, Oregon, Catalog, 1966]
