'The Black Douglas' (Jacob Sass, 1934)TB 36" Midseason bloom. Color Class B7D. Purple based foliage. Honorable Mention 1936.

From Robert Wayman catalog 1940: "This is unquestionably the best of the new dark tones or so-called blacks. It is a very richly and deeply colored iris of perfect form, heavy substance, huge size and a prolific bloomer. The general effect is an intense deep blackish pansy violet and it seems to be cut out of velvet." Honorable Mention 1936.
