A section of the Subgenus Iris. The name means Sand Iris and that is the soil type in which these species prosper. The following species have been included in this group of dwarf Iris: Iris bloudowii, Iris curvifolia, Iris humilis, Iris mandschurica, and Iris potaninii. New Irises not included in the species guide include Iris kamelinii Alexeeva, Iris ivanovae and Iris vorobievii N.S,Pavlov.
