■(SIB) 'Blue Kaleidoscope'

1982, Helsley

'Blue Kaleidoscope' (Calvin Helsley, R. 1980). Seedling 33-80. SIB (28 chrom. diploid), 30" (76 cm), Midseason bloom. Ruffled light blue with large blended blotches of medium and dark blue and violet, small white signal with bit of black. 'White Swirl' X 'Sky Wings'. Helsley 1982. Honorable Mention 1984.

From AIS Bulletin #245 April 1982: Introducing: BLUE KALEIDOSCOPE (Helsley) SIB, 27" , Midseason bloom. $20.00. Remember the toy you looked through to see beautiful patterns of color? This iris presents a kaleidoscopic pattern in different shades of blue. The 4" flowers sport 2" falls of medium blue (RHS 96C) shaded and veined darker (96A) with edging of light blue (97C/0) and hafts of violet (93B). The 1-1/4" standards are light blue. Styles are light blue with midribs of turquoise (1040). A blue filter was used for the picture in the color ad so.flowers contain more violet. The compact form is further enhanced by horizontal flare and ruffling. Lower growing plant with excellent growth. Sdlg 33-80. White Swirl X Sky Wings. Calvin Helsley.
