- If anyone has 'Rhein Nixe' growing in their garden, it should be double checked with 'Mrs. Andrist'. There are many circulating with the wrong identity. The two cultivars are pretty similar, but there are differences. If you want a good photo comparison, for 'Rhein Nixe', check the Historic Iris Preservation Society photos. https://www.historiciris.org/listings/rhein-nixe/. 'Rhein Nixe' usually grows to the height of 36", and has a looser form to its standards. 'Mrs. Andrist' is usually shorter (24" or less) and has a much more tailored look to the standards.
After being questioned as to whether or not Mrs. Andrist has purple on the spathes, I checked my photos for the past couple of years. It doesn't have any on the spathes, just at the base of the foliage. (from Holly Johnson) -- BrewItt - 04 Jul 2021
