From Lena M. Lothrop, ";Poor Season in Southern California", A.I.S. Bulletin 78_ (Jul. 1940): 16: FARCROSS, a rich, almost black iris, is, with Landmark, a distinct type unlike any other iris. Thes two show more regelia influence. They are tall and many branched and are beautiful from the moment the black pointed buds begin to push their way out of their calyces. |
From The Court Of Iris catalog, 1955: FARCROSS (White '40) E 24" (Unknown). While the parentage is unknown, the Iris Check List credits this variety with one quarter Onco blood and it looks the part. The medium sized flowers are of a beautiful deep, dark maroon that looks almost black when first opened. $.75. |

Parentage unknown. AIS 1949 checklist states, "one-fourth onco". AIS Color Class: S7D (dark redtoned squalens ). '76 CL: Dark red blend. Court of Iris: "dark maroon which looks almost black when first opened." Rainbow: "mulberry standards. Plush-like blackish-crimson falls." Vallette: "mulberry S.; long velvety black-crimson F. lavender beard." No information on introduction found in AIS Checklists. Notes: An OB- in both systems.
