'Gypsy King' (Lena Lothrop, R. 1943). TB. Midseason bloom. Color Class S7D. Seedling x 'Farcross'.

NOTE: This iris has not been accepted as an arilbred by the Aril Society International because it does not exhibit the aril characteristics necessary for ASI acceptance.

From Supplement To The Comprehensive Checklist of Aril and Arilbred Iris by Sharon McAllister, April 2000: GYPSY KING Disenrolled (Lena Lothrop, R. 1943). Sdlg # NIA. TMB, M. Seedling X Far Cross. AIS Color Class:!S7D (Dark red-toned squalens.) Court of Iris: "Claret red with broad velvety falls". Rainbow: "Claret red, with broad velvey falls set off by a lilac and yellow beard. Standards partially open, exposing brilliant amethyst style arms." Vallette: "fairly large iridescent brown-purple self." No information on introduction found in AIS Checklists. Notes: presumably 1/8 onc, disenrolled when the quantum requirement was adopted. Ref:AIS '49, p.121; Vallette, p. 176.
