From Milliken Gardens catalog, 1948: There is no other iris which is anything like this one. It is an oncobred. Clarence White, we feel sure, has done more breeding with oncocyclus than anyone else in this country, and so far as accomplishments testify, more than any other breeder in the world. For many years now we have seen the surprising new productions arising from his persistent labors. Nothing like Joppa Parrot has ever appeared before. It has a medley of colors. The ground color is yellow beige on which are cinnamon, violet, and mahogany areas. The colors are not blended, but are placed on the flower as an artist using oils places the colors on the canvas. An attempt at description would be futile--it has to be seen. The plant is vigorous and multiplies rapidly. The flower is well shaped and of medium size. 2 feet. $10.00.
From The Court Of Iris catalog, 1955: JOPPA PARROT (White '48) E 24" (Oncobred). One of Mr. White's most famous originations. Also it is the last of the three most potent pollen parents in the Onco derivations. It is at once breathtaking and indescribable. The dome shaped standards are shaded from mauve to mulberry with darker veinings and striations. The golden brown falls are splashed mulberry and there is a trace of a darker signal patch. This variety should be divided annually. $5.00

From Rainbow Hybridizing Gardens catalog 1963: JOPPA PARROT. Discontinued because too difficult to grow. Try Bali Agha, in color on this page--almost identical to Joppa Parrot, much taller, ever so much easier to grow. Also, for real thrills, try some of readily-grown descendants of Joppa Parrot: True Gold, page 37; Red Joppa, page 35; Golden Joppa, page 17; Black Joppa, page 36.
