From Tell's Iris Gardens catalog,1959: MOHRNING HAZE (Walt Luihn, Hayward, Calif.) Early-Midseason. 36 inches. (54-1, Snow Flurry x Prof. Mitchell Blue Seedling) X (Capitola.) Large greyed lavender blue self of perfect form. The beard is blue and some of this same coloring is poured out over the area near the beard giving a suggestion of a "signal patch." The falls and standards meaure four inches across. MOHRNING HAZE blooms and increases profusely and is perfectly hardy. We do not know the breeding of the Mitchell blue seedling, however, it is likely a Snow Flurry x Chivalry cross. This iris should be useful to work for blue beards and for ARIL breeding. We think it will be particularly fine with some of the new C. G. White hybrids. MOHRNING HAZE was awarded an H. C. in 1957, and in 1958 won the Gold Cup for Best Seedling in the Sacramento Iris show and received the C.O.C.as well. Walt Luihn's first introduction and a fine one. No.56-C. $20.00.
From Rainbow Hybridizing Gardens catalog 1963: MOHRNING HAZE (Luihn '59) EM-33". Famous Oncobred of gigantic size. Both falls & standards measure 4" acrosS, making a flower to simply bowl you over. Its best feature is its long blooming period, starting with early Oncobreds, ending with last of Talls. A greyed lavender-blue with a blue beard & some of the blue spilling over onto falls, & suggesting a signal patch. Destined for great popularity. HM'59, RU·C.White Mem.'62. Snow Flurry X Capitola. Regularly $7.50; on $10 order $4.95; on $25 order $3.95.

Mr. and Mrs. Walt Luihn of Hayward, California are both iris fanciers, but Walt takes "blame" for the hybridizing. They have one of the finest collections of Aril hybrids in the United States and grand seedlings from these. On our way home from the A.I.S. Convention in 1955 the Hamblens and I saw the Luihn seedlings and the first blooming of the lovely hybrid I am introducing this year as MOHRNING HAZE. Discriminating fanciers have urged the introduction of this fine iris and have anxiously awaited the day of its formal debut. Tell's Iris Garden
