From Schreiner Iris catalog, 1937: PESHAWAR. A hybrid containing blood of the tall bearded, dwarf bearded, and Oncocyclus species. From the latter it inherits the distinctive coloring and form (seen in Wm. Mohr), but because it is derived only one-eighth from the Oncocyclus, it can be grown without coddling or fuss. Peshawar is a rich red purple completely veined and dotted a deeper shade. The beard is striking, being twice as large as is normal for a tall-bearded type, and of a rich gold color. The stems bear two or three branches and are about twentyfour inches tall. This hybrid blooms about ten days earlier than the tall bearded varieties, with which it compares quite favorably in size. Price, each $3.50.
From Supplement To The Comprehensive Checklist of Aril and Arilbred Iris by Sharon McAllister, April 2000: PESHAWAR AB (Robert Schreiner, R. 1937). Sdlg # NIA. IMB, medium height, very early. Parentage unknown. AIS Color Class: B7D (dark blue self with red undertones). No description in the '76 Checklist. Rainbow: "Velvety blackish purple, enriched with brown, powdered silver." Vallette: "vigorous early brown-purple intermediate." Notes: Vallette gives the pedigree as a Cham.Seedling X lb-Mac; counted as having 42 chromosomes, classified by the '76 committee as an OB- in the quantum. Ref: AIS '39, p. 428; ASI '76, p.66; ASI '78 YB, p. 64.; Vallette, p. 179.

From The Court Of Iris catalog, 1955: PESHAWAR (Schreiner '37) VE 26" (Unknown). This appealing flower is of a velvety black-purple with a silvery powdered surface. It is a fast increaser and will set some seed as well as produce pollen. $.60. A.M. '43
