From Milliken Gardens catalog, 1940: Here is another of Mr. C. G . White's wide crosses and a distinct addition to the group introduced two years ago. Young April should be classed as a table iris, for its dainty charm must be observed at close range and is apt to be overlooked in a garden dominated by larger and bolder irises. As a cut flower, it is indeed a gem. The standards are a bright violet rather distinctly veined and the falls are a deeper violet, veined with blackish purple and flushed with brown. The center of the Flower reveals a golden brown beard and styles of rich copper bronze lightly flushed with violet. The slender 12-inch stems are well-branched for this type of iris and the foliage is more slender and grasslike than the regular bearded irises. An early bloomer. $2.50.
From The Court Of Iris catalog, 1955: YOUNG APRIL (While '40) E 12" (Unknown). Of a bright violet the standards have tiny flecks of gold. The falls are of golden-tan which show as a narrow border -so heavily is it veined and dotted in egg-plant brown. The small signal is intense black. Cuts well. $.75
