From The Court Of Iris catalog, 1955: This name comes not from the Greek but from mediaeval Brittany. The opera 'Tristan and Isolda' was written around the romance which also involves King Mark of Cornwall. This is one of the more unusual colorings in this type---over a mahogany groundwork is spread a network of old gold. Early bloom. 18" $3.00.

I. korolkowii var. venosa X I. atropurpurea. AIS Color Class: S6M (yellow squalens with bitone pattern). '76 CL: Yellow-toned blend, medium. Rainbow: "EE-16". Standards light buff, flushed dark crimson, impressively veined in mahogany. Falls golden buff, ined dark reddish mahagony, with large black-mahogany signal. Whole flower glitters as if sprinkled with gold dust." Vallette: "golden bronze, a larger and broader Charon." Van Tubergen,1916.
