Some contradictory information from The Garden p.267, June 3, 1922: Iris Regelio-cyclus 'Orestes'. "A fascinating Iris which is much easier to admire than to describe. It has all the grace and charm of this group, which is the result of intercrossing Iris Regelia with Iris Oncocyclus. The delicately veined standards are bronzy-mauve coloured, and the falls are shaded purple lake. The delicate beard is sap-green, and there are twin emerald lines on the style arms. Award of merit to Messrs. Barr and Sons."
From The Court of Iris catalog, 1955: Orestes was the son of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra and had two sisters-Iphigenia and Electra. The flowers are of a rich mahogany-red with a brown beard. It is slightly frilled and waved and an iridescence of purple and violet gives much brilliance. Very early bloom. 18". $1.00.
