From The Court Of Iris catalog, 1955: THOR VE 12" (Korolkowi X Sari). Of course Thor was a Norse god who controlled the thunder and had a magic hammer which he used to fling around rather freely. I think there was generally a bit of lightning also! Even though this one is short it's quite handsome. The ground color is pearly-gray and the heavy veins are in dull purple while brilliance is given by a patch of bright purple. $.75
From Supplement To The Comprehensive Checklist of Aril and Arilbred Iris by Sharon McAllister, April 2000: THOR AR (C. G. Van Tubergen, NR). Sdlg # NIA. RC. Height and bloom season NIA. Parentage unknown. AIS Color Class: SID (dark, blue-toned squalens). '76 CL: Blue and white blend, self, dark pattern. Court of Iris: "The pearl-gray ground is netted in heavy purple veining. Signal is even darker in color." Rainbow: "VE-14". Standards of palest lavender, lined in purple; falls pale greenish silver, with veins and signal of dark maroon." Vallette: "whitish S. flushed and veined mulberry; silvery white F. with large maroon signal and gray-bronze beard." Hocker Edge Gardens, 1932. Notes: name not approved because it had already been used for a TB; '59 ASI YB gives pedigree as I korolkowii type X I sari; Court of Iris gives I. korolkowii X I sari , either pedigree would make it an RC in both systems but counted as a 31 chromosome triploid (presumably from an unreduced onco gamete), which would make it an OG in the chromosome-set system. Ref: AIS '39, p. 535;ASI '76, p. 84; Vallette, p. 172.
