Van Tubergen

'Vulcanus' (C. G. Van Tubergen, not registered). AR, 17" (45 cm); Early bloom. Bronzy scarlet, blended with crimson. Beard dark blue. ( Iris korolkowii X Iris stolonifera ). Introduced 1946. [Iris korolkowii Regel X Iris stolonifera Maxim].

From The Court Of Iris catalog, 1955: Vulcanus was the god of fire and made armor for the Olympic gods. He was the only immortal who was both lame and ugly. Generally accepted as the son of Zeus and Hera and the husband of Aphrodite, who was usually busy with the affairs of love. The flower is slender and pointed of chocolate-brown. There is a glossy violet blotch in the center of the beard upon which is a blue beard. Early bloom. 18". $1.00.
