1980, Stahly

'Drum Solo' (Harold Stahly, R. 1980). Seedling #71-1-B. BB, 26" (66 cm), Early midseason boom. Standards very deep violet; falls slightly darker and velvety; self beard; ruffled. ('Licorice Stick' x 'Black Swan') X 'Sable Robe'. Stahly 1980. High Commendation 1979; Honorable Mention 1982; Favorite Guest 1983; Award of Merit 1985; Knowlton Medal 1987.

From AIS Bulletin #238 July 1980 Introducing DRUM SOLO (Stahly '80) BB 26" EM. Very deep violet standards with slightly deeper, velvety black falls and self beard. The blocky, ruffled blooms-usually 5-6 per stalk-are of very good, wide form with size in proportion for a border bearded. Fertile both ways, but sometimes difficult. Performed beautifully in the Saxton garden during the Huntsville Convention. Sdlg. 71-1-B. (Licorice Stick x Black Swan) X Sable Robe. HC '79. $20.00. Hal Stahly.
