Description of collection: The collection is new and developing, the garden was begun in 2010. As yet only about 50 MDBs assembled and about 50 dwarf species. The primary interest is in plants under 18 inches tall with greater enthusiasm for plants under a foot and MDBs are under 8 inches. The garden is an experimental garden testing various microclimates, soils and methods of growing. Previously over a decade ago the owner had assembled a collection of 500 MDBs but the collection was lost. That experience has lead to a more systematic approach involving other gardens and gardeners.

About the collection Holder: Trained as a plant ecologist and taxonomist, a life long interest in the genus Iris has developed. The holder is available for lectures but restricts his presentations to enable work in the garden and his writing.

Goal of the garden: To bring together all known extant varieties of MDBs and a definitive collection of species such as: Iris cristata, Iris gracillipes, Iris verna, Iris unguiculares, Oncocyclus species, Junos and others. Seedlings for trial are accepted with prearrangement.

The garden is also an AIS Display garden and open by appointment. No fees.
