The American Joint Committee of Horticultural Nomenclature
THE American Joint Committee on Horticultural Nomenclature was formed in 1915 by committees of the American Association of Nurserymen and of the Ornamental Growers' Association. Gradually enlarging in scope and representative character.
In its 1923 STANDARDIZED PLANT NAMES, A CATALOGUE OF APPROVED SCIENTIFIC AND COMMON NAMES OF PLANTS IN AMERICAN COMMERCE it laid the groundwork for the creation of Checklists of Irises by The American Iris Society. The AIS Bulletin No.8 was a reprint of one of its early reports.
A second edition was published in Kelsey, H. P., & Dayton, W. A. (1942). Standardized Plant Names, second edition. American Joint Committee on Horticultural Nomenclature. Horace McFarland Company, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
