1876, Iris longipetala and Iberica cross

The Garden, p.540, June 10, 1876

The true large Iris longipetala, now in bloom, is a fine species with the falls of the flower beautifully netted with violet, so as to remind one of the blossoms of the Zygopetalum Maokayi. Distinct Irises are very desirable, but there are a great many intermediate forms which are not worthy of cultivation. There is a curious and fine hybrid in flower at Ware's, between I. iberica and apparently one of the dark German Irises.
