Iris squalens L, * Di questa interessantissima pianta credo meritevole trascrivere ciò che ne scrive il Di Petris: « Molte sono le spetie dell'Iride, ma hora descriuo della nostrana che noi in Sauris habbiamo negli horti, et altrovo nella Oargna uiene impiantata sopra le mura de gì' horti spetialmente vicino le strade, per ornamento, fa la radice tuberosa, grossa, nodosa, con altre fibrose sotto et germogliano assai foglie come spade, longhe et strette, •doppie che una uiene fuori dal mezo dell'altra per longo, fusto che fa più rami tondo, nella cui somità produce il suo fiore di vari colori ma per lo più estremo (sphalm. prò esterno) Azuro, nel mezzo giallo bianco e variato, seme tondo negro.

Qualità, ecc. ». Questa è la più antica indicazione di questa pianta per l'Italia che io mi sappia.
