The 1939 Checklist states: -
"Ellwanger & Barry, Mt. Hope Nurseries, Rochester, N.Y. One of America's most famous nurseries, established 1840. Discontinued 1918. Introducers to America of many of our finest plants. Owing to their influence Rochester became known as the Flower City and has today one of the finest park systems in America."
