| The 1939 checklist notes: "Louis Benoit Van Houtte (1810-1876), Ghent, Belgium. Director, Botanical Garden Brussels, Director, Horticultural Institute, Ghent. Editor, Flore des Serres etc. One of the most famous of European nurserymen and horticulturalists. Introducer of rare plants. Nursery established 1839. Irises marked 1854 are probably Lemon seedlings. |
