James Veitch & Sons,

The 1939 checklist notes: "James Veitch & Sons, Royal Nurseries, Mt. Radford, Topsham Rd., Exeter, England. Founded 1808 by John Veitch at Killerton, near Exeter. Succeeded in 1864 by Robert Veitch & Son, The Royal Nurseries, New North Rd. Exeter (Robert Toswill Veitch 1823-1885). Owned later by his son, Peter Christian Massyn Veitch (1850-1929), great grandson of the original founder. Large nursery for Ornamentals and rare plants. This and the Chelsea Nursery, founded by James Veitch, the younger, are among the most celebrated of English nurseries. Sir Harry J. Veitch, F.L.S., V.M.H. ( -1929), received the Victoria Medal of Honour in 1906."
