(IB) 'Sonny Boy'
1939, Kirkland
'Sonny Boy' (
James Kirkland, R. 1939) IB. Midseason bloom. Color Class-S6M. Kirkland 1939.
SONNY BOY. This is the best of the bunch [
'Aztec',
'Magnetawan',
'Conestoga',
'Orillia'], and can best be described as a brighter and larger
'King Midas'. [G. L. Pilkington, "Iris Notes",
A.I.S. Bulletin 74 (July 1939): 35].
SONNY BOY, both at Nashville and later in my own garden in Roanoke, proved to be one of the finest of the Kirkland introductions to date. [Junius P. Fishburn, "Survey of 1940 Iris Season",
A.I.S. Bulletin 78 (July 1940): 48.]
