'Bullington Blue' (Robert Bullington, deceased, by
Walter Hoover). Not Registered. JI. (6 Falls), Height 40" (122 cm). Midseason bloom. Style arms white tipped blue. Falls blue with white rays extending from white area surrounding yellow signal. Charles Street Garden, Saluda, NC.
Note: Robert Bullington was retired NYPD and a former groundskeeper for Belmont Park Race Track and various estates on Long Island's Gold Coast. He moved to Hendersonvillle, NC in 1979 where he established a nursery until his death in 1989. Several unnamed Japanese irises were brought to NC with him, probably Japanese imports from the estates on LI, one of which was named 'Bullington Blue' in his memory. 'Bullington Blue' is not registered with AIS, but has been in commerce locally for many years. His original 12 acre garden has matured into the
Bullington Gardens Horticultural Center, Hendersonville, NC.
