From Marx Gardens catalog, 1958: EMBOSSED (Marx 1956) Each $5.00. Here is a Marhigo with precise clear cut features unmatched by any iris, except perhaps some of the Oncocyclus clan. The frilly white flowers shrouded in a network of sharp, well defined veins of deepest (Pansy) blue, and the large tufted centers of deepest royal purple tipped white, create a distinctive heraldic engraving effect. It spells: class. The double 6- to 7-inch flowers are exceptionally ruffled for this type. 3½ to 4 feet. Midseason.
Facebook comment by Jeff Bennett, June 2024: Japanese iris have very different requirements than bearded irises. Mostly, they must remain in moist to very wet soil. The flowers open up to reveal themselves but really expand on day two. Anywhere from 4 to 8+ inches across. No scent. Just beautiful.
