■(JI) 'Maiko'

1992, Society for Japanese Irises

'Maiko' (Society for Japanese Irises, R. 1992) JI (6 F.), 36" (91 cm), Midseason bloom. White with red purple edging and plicata markings, signal yellow; style arms white, tipped red purple. Parentage unknown. Originated at Shuho-en prior to being imported into U.S. in 1973. Supercedes 1939 Check List entry "Mai-ko", which mis-identifies Mr. Uyeki as originator. Uyeki of Yokohama Nursery obtained many irises from Shuho-en and was the first to export Maiko to the U.S.
