This cultivar was named to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Royal Horticultural Society of NSW Inc. - which celebrated the event in 2012. The RHS of NSW is one of the oldest horticultural Societies in Australia. 'Bennelong' was the first national indigenous Australian who befriended Capt. Arthur Philip in 1788 when the first settlement of New South Wales was made at Sydney Cove. Bennelong Point was named by Governor Philip to recognise the friendship and the Sydney Opera House sits proudly on this point in Sydney Harbour. The colours of the RHS of NSW are ruby and gold. |
