1998, Pryor

'Captain Gates' (Heather Pryor, R. 1998). Seedling 25/91-B. LA, 39" (100 cm), Midseason late bloom. Standards violet (RHS 83A), white rim and reverse; style arms white, violet tips and midrib blush; Falls slightly deeper violet, white rim and reverse, yellow signal with raised golden yellow steeple; ruffled. 'Koorawatha' X 'Sea Lord'. Lone Star 1998.

Named for Dennis Gates, the wife of Catherine Long Gates of Long's Gardens in Boulder, CO to recognise his promotion to Captain of his commercial airline employer.
