Docents for the Iris Twiki
Docents are registered members of the Iris Wiki that are also in the
DocentGroup and do additional administration activities. Docents generally elect to contribute to, and monitor, one or more classes of Irises. The intent is that they are educated guides and knowledgeable about Irises. They can resolve conflicts on Iris information, remove spam or abusive comments, and lock or unlock pages from updates.
If you are interested in becoming a docent, you must first be a registered user of the Iris Wiki.
Register Here. Send an email to a member of the
WikiAdminGroup and provide your registered name, the class or classes you would like to cover and a little bit about yourself.
Once they have added you to the
DocentGroup you will receive an email back. Then you should go to
Notifications and add yourself to the notification list on that page (more instructions there).
You should receive one summary notification each day listing recent changes. Don't forget you can always revert a topic page to a previous version if someone has really messed it up!
Adding Cultivars
It is very important to read and understand the
Instructions before you add a cultivar. If you still aren't sure, contact one of the other
Docents.
To Lock/Unlock a Topic or cultivar page
If you need to lock a topic because someone keeps
repeatedly entering bad information, or several people are having an endless argument in the comments section, etc. here are the steps you can take to lock the page so that only a docent can change it:
- Go to the topic page and scroll down to the bottom and look for the line in red font that begins "Edit Attach...". The last action is "More topic Actions". Click on that.
- Scroll down to "Edit Topic Preference Settings" and click on "Edit Settings".
- An edit box will come up. In this box type exactly 3 spaces, an asterisk, 1 space, Set ALLOWTOPICCHANGE = DocentGroup
- Click Save
If you want to see an example of this setting, just check the preference settings on this topic.
To unlock, follow the above instructions but erase the
ALLOWTOPICCHANGE line.
If there is a serious problem with a registered member defacing contents on pages
repeatedly, contact one of the
Admins and tell them what is happening, provide the registered name of the user and ask that they be deleted.
