Friend of Stendhal and Mérimée; Has been on several research trips : America, Haiti (1826). In 1828, he leaves for Cape Town, Réunion before India (1829) for three and a half years and shoot up to the center of Himalaya. Knowing to be very sick, he prepares carefully the shipping of his work to the Natural history museum of Paris.
