He was elected mayor of Orleans in 1929 and became a senator in the Loiret on 1933. At the beginning of World War II, July 10, 1940, it does not take part in the vote full powers to Marshal Pétain. His son Marcel (1907-2000) became a partner (1930) before succeeding him. Was member of Société Française des Iris et plantes Bulbeuses and awarded Société Nationale d'Horticulture de France, in 1994. See: MARCEL TURBAT, IRIS et BULBEUSES n° 138, autome 2000, p. 3. (translation below)
Mr. Marcel TURBAT, one of our oldest professional members, passed away last August at the age of 93.
Heir to a line of horticulturists in the Loire Valley, his long life was most fulfilled, both at the level of his firm and that of various activities, national and international, within the horticultural world: Secretary General of the National Federation of Producers of Horticulture and Nurseries, President of the National Interprofessional Committee of Horticulture (CNHI), representative of France to the International Association of Horticultural Producers, inter alia.
As for the SFIB, of which he was one of the first members (it was then called SFAI: Société Française des Amateurs d'Iris), the impetus he gave to the creation of the Parc Floral de la Source (1964) and then to that of the Floralies Internationales (1967), of which he also ensured the double presidency, was very beneficial to our Association. Whether for the organization of various A.G. or the launch of the Critérium de l'Iris, we have always been assured of its solicitude and support, as well as the provision of this prestigious setting. The signatory of these lines can not forget either the event that was the International Congress of 1978, which he had certainly imagined but whose establishment and the perfect unfolding lasted a lot to the constant, discreet but effective action of Marcel TURBAT. It is, 22 years later, a pleasant duty to pay him once again the tribute that is due to him.
The world of horticulture and the SFIB have lost a servant of integrity, disinterested and having spared no time or pain for what he thought was the general interest. May his wife and sons be assured of our sympathy and of the memory that we will keep of him for a long time to come.
Editor's note: The Cayeux house gave the name 'Marcel Turbat' to one of its varieties. It is a large light orange iris with minium beards, introduced in 1983...

Jean, son of Marcel, ended Plants Turbat (1983).
