Series Ensatae (Diels) Lawrence
The botanical series, in the
Section Liminiris, that contains the most common of species in China (
Iris lactea). Due to an earlier naming error where lactea was named Iris ensata when it already had been given the prior name of Iris lactea, the series was named based ensata. Unfortunately Iris ensata was a name that was already used for what used to be known as Iris kaempferi, the Japanese Iris. When the error was discovered Iris kaempferi became Iris ensata and Iris ensata became Iris lactea, unfortunately the series that Iris lactea was in had already been named Series Ensatae and that name has priority.
