While suggested terms are presented they do not necessarily represent the final conclusions of what terms should be used. Under each taxon (cultivar or species) the conservation status will be noticed by a few words and a link to more information. Under more one can include more specifics for that particular taxon. Example see [[Spec.SpecLacustris][Iris lacustris]] Under species when possible detailed maps of the geographical distribution will be included and notes about the extent of the populations in that geography. When known Red Book status will be given. Under cultivars, various indicators of the current worldwide population will be noted. Results of surveys of specialists may give the number of gardens reporting growing it in a given year. Numbers of votes in popularity polls may indicate people growing it in a given year. Votes received on the official ballot may indicate judges growing it in a given year. Numbers of catalogs listing the cultivar in a given year should indicate relative abundance. If all indicators point to less than 4 gardens presently growing the cultivar, than, that cultivar is considered at risk. If more than 4 gardens can be shown to be growing the cultivar but it is older than 30 years old its status would be guarded. Undetermined is self-explanatory. Extinct is a judgement call based upon a diligent search. ---+++ Current Iris Encyclopedia Status Contents While indicators are being developed, the Iris Encyclopedia already has some indications of cultivars at risk. Searching for "extinct" shows three cultivars listed as extinct. These are: [[Ib.IbIvorine]['Ivorine']] (IB), [[Sdb.SdbDarkCaper]['Dark Caper']] (SDB), [[Spu.SpuOriole]['Oriole']] (SPU). You can use this [[WebSearchAdvanced?search=extinct&scope=all&web=all&sort=topic&limit=50][link to repeat the search]] and see the the possible species or location extinction mentions in historic publications and other cultivars that may be added. --- %COMMENT{ type="bottom"}% --- -- Main.BobPries - 2015-04-28
