Irises with Purple Stems or Spathes.

Some Iris have Purple bracts below the flowers. Others have purple flower stalks. Often these characters may be seen together and may also be related to purple based foliage. Aside from the species Iris sanguinea named for its blood red bracts and Iris purpureobractea named for its dark purple bracts, the trait of purple bracts has been a relatively new trait among Novelty Irises.
