The Reed Garden

Mary Ellen and Mike Reed had a garden full of daylilies, iris, and a variety of other annuals, perennials, and bulbs. There were hundreds of iris cultivars spanning the years from 1844 to 2022, including Standard Dwarf Bearded, Miniature Tall Bearded, Intermediate Bearded, Border Bearded, Tall Bearded, Louisiana and Spuria irises. Within the garden there were several Dykes Medal winners and many native Texas plants. Flagstone walkways, water features and garden art were spread throughout the landscape to enjoy. There were plantings in the back, front, and side yards of this large corner lot. Three raised beds hosted the guest iris that allowed viewing from both sides of each bed. In those beds there were 130 different guest iris cultivars from 27 different hybridizers sent in specifically to be grown and displayed in the convention tour gardens. When you needed a moment to reflect on what you had seen, there was a covered patio that allowed you to continue to view the gardens while you relaxed. It was an exciting garden to visit, thank you Mary Ellen and Mike.
