Two Iris species; Iris domestica and Iris dichotoma naturally bloom in the Summer. They may cross producing hybrids known as Iris x norrisii. This complex of species and hybrids we are referring to as the Summer irises. Because there have been numerous Botanical synonyms such as Pardanthopsis and Belamcanda common name for this group is warranted. Blackberry Lilies also is a good common name but those hybrids strongly influenced by I. dichotoma and dichotoma itself do not produce the clusters of seeds that look like blackberries. A plant may not always have good documentation as to heritage and some domesticas and norrissi maybe hard to distinguish. Therefore this topic "Summer Irises" is created to pull together all plants in this breeding group.
