(MDB) 'April Var'
1966, Brown
'April Var' (
Alta Brown, R. 1965). Seedling #D 465-2. MDB, height 6" (15 cm). Very early bloom. Standards bright yellow; falls red-brown, narrowly margined yellow; ivory beards.
'Carpathia' X
'pumila' Serbian #11. Brown's Iris Gardens 1966. Honorable Mention 1967.
APRIL VAR (A. Brown '66)—this pumila is similar to ABLAZE in coloring but on a smaller, dantier scale and with an orange beard that shades to white at the tips. We bought this the year it was introduced, grew it and were unimpressed. Not until it was moved to the rock garden and formed a nice sized clump did it show its true worth. It has blossomed a good four weeks and holds its color well. (Fry, 1970).
