■(MDB) 'Chapel Glow'

1977, Dalgaard

'Chapel Glow' (Sigrid Dalgaard by Hanson, R. 1976). Seedling #104-2. MDB, height 5" (13 cm). Early bloom. Standards full violet; falls red spots edged full violet, feathered to paler edges; light blue-violet beards; ruffled. 'Black Baby' X 'Cretica'. Riverdale Iris Gardens 1977. Honorable Mention 1978.

NOTE: The photo of CHAPEL GLOW posted here is of a clone dug during the rescue of Norman Lunden’s collection in May, 2020, several months after her death, and with the permission and assistance of her daughter. In a 2016/17 survey of the MDB class by the Dwarf Iris Society, the Lunden collection was found to contain the last known clone of CHAPEL GLOW and a number of other rarities. Norma Lunden had collected iris for over 50 years and had proved to be a reliable source for older varieties she donated to National Collections of MDB then being assembled. While the identity of this clone is not 100% certain it does appear it could be, based on the current assessment. If anyone has photo documentation or clones that provide for an alternative please contact Charlie Carver at lefthandhorticulture@gmail.com
