, unregistered). Subgenus Scorpiris
(Junos). Height 18" (45 cm). Bloom season early with Iris bucharica. Standards pendent, small, white, paddle shaped, inconspicuous; style arms conspicuous bright white; falls edged white but central area is a blotch of bright yellow orange, with prominent crest down the center, blotch bordered by purple. I.bucharica x I. warleyensis. Leonid explains the origin of the name 'Argument'; "When I was crossing two parents Iris bucharica
x I warleyensis
I was looking for arguments for theory, that I. x Warlsind can not be a hybrid of I. warleyensis
x I. sindjarensis
, because there are good visible the signs of I. bucharica
hort. So I have gotten the series of plants very like to I. x"Warlsind" (and I. bucharica
hort.). Therefore you see the names: "Argument", "New Argument", "Twin" (of "Warlsind"). All this hybrids are exclusively hardy and good for outdoors." It appears that Leonid has made a strong case for the old cultivar 'Warlsind' to be a bucharica/warleyenis cross. The name 'Warlsind' combined the two species names warleyensis and sindjarensis(now called iris aucheri). This is a very old method of naming crosses started by Foster in 1890, but is discouraged because of the name changes that often occur later. In this case it would appear not only has the name changed but the wrong species cited as pollen parent. Offered for sale in 2000 by Leonid Bondarenko (L. Bondarenko's Catalogue 2000). Iris bucharica
x I warleyensis
