But this is not an Iris pseudacorus! Its fertility is limited in comparison and has a distinct chromosome number. It is believed to be 3rd or 4th generation from the sterile hybrid 'Holden Clough' by way of 'Roy Davidson'. "I got the seed ( Gubijin) from BIS seed exchanged, Seed donor was Anne B.White."--Shimizu. Registration corrected in 2016
From Mt. Pleasant Iris Farm catalog 2017: Gubijin (Shimizu) 36” to 52". It will present with many two inch gold blooms and great strong upright foliage. Plant in full sun, with loose moist soil rich in organics. Not invasive with seed. This is the pod parent for many “Pseudata”. Bright chartreuse foliage-Blooms early June. $10.00.

Hybrids

Despite its limited fertility This Iris has been important in producing, with a great deal of effort, crosses with the Japanese Irises, Iris ensata Thunberg. These are termed 'Pseudatas' and are complete dead ends producing no seed.
