2005, Black

'Devoted' (Paul Black, R. 2005). Seedling K347A. SDB, 13" (33 cm), Late midseason bloom. Standards and style arms medium violet; falls wine red, medium violet rim, short white rays on each side of beard; beards white at end, light yellow in throat, large; ruffled; slight spicy fragrance. Seedling B279BB, 'Puddy Tat' sibling, X seedling I179A: ('Time To Shine' x seedling E118A: ('Hot Jazz' x 'Quote')). Mid-America 2005. Honorable Mention 2007; Award of Merit 2009.

From Mid-America Garden catalog, 2005: DEVOTED - SOB, 13" (33 cm), Midseason-Late. Devoted is what I've been for a lot of years to bring the color and pattern of historic Red Heart into a modern form . Devoted gave me a reward beyond anything I could have anticipated. Moderately ruffled standards and styles are soft medium violet blue. Wide, elegantly ruffled falls are wine-red with narrow diffuse medium viole-blue margins. Thick, white chenille beards end in a cluster of short white darts which accentuate the starkly contrasted beards. Fast increase provides plentiful stalks with one branch and 3 buds.
