'Mulberry Metallic' (Simon Voorwinde, R. 2020). Seedling B-08-01, SDB, 9" (23cm), Midseason bloom. Standards very dark red-purple, dark textured veins throughout; style arms dark purple; falls very dark red-purple flushed violet towards the center, dark textured veins throughout, white haft lines deep in the throat; beards very dark, rich, violet; very thick petals with distinct metallic sheen all over; slight fragrance. 'Wee Stroll' x 'Yoda' Forth Valley Iris.

Hybridizer's Comment - 'Mulberry Metallic' (2020): Seedling B-08-01: (Wee Stroll x Yoda). This seedling is a bit of an enigma! It comes out a very dark purple but the petals have amazing substance giving it excellent longevity, which is ultimately why we ended up choosing it, and a very distinct metallic sheen all over which reflects light like metallic painted metal does. Originally I wanted to call this one 'Mr Sheen', but a story from years ago involving one of my ex-students and his insistence on correcting people about the colour of the car he was doing up (no... it's not purple... it's Mulberry Metallic...) just seems more 'deserving'... good times 😂 So, here we present 'Mulberry Metallic' (B-08-01), a mid-late season SDB that will reach 20-25cm in height.
