'Serendipity Elf' (O. David Niswonger, R. 1992). Seedling# SDB 26-90. SDB, 12" (30 cm), Midseason bloom. Standards old rose with slight olive rim; falls light fuchsia, deep fuchsia halo around beard, gold haft markings and near-gold edge; beards light blue, tipped tangerine. Seedling# SDB 20-87: (C. Palmer seedling# 7259: (('Wilma V' x unknown) x 'Little Titan') x Nichols seedling# 8109A: ('April Anthem' x 'Passport')) X 'Adoring Glances'. Cape Iris 1993. Honorable Mention 1995.

From AIS Bulletin #289 April 1993 Introducing SERENDIPITY ELF (Niswonger '93) Sdlg. SDB 26-90: (20-87: C. Palmer 7259, inv. Wilma V, prob. Knotty Pine, Hit Parade, Cretica and Little Titan, x H. Nichols 8109A) X Adoring Glances. A really exciting color of blended red-violet with more intense coloring around the hafts and a tiny rim of gold around the falls with a hint of it in the stds. The beards are light blue-based tipped with tangerine. Or you could say it's a light fuchsia with an olive rim. Hey, it's hard to describe! SDB, 12", M, and fertile both ways. $15.00. Cape Iris.

• SDB 'Serendipity Elf' was blooming at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, zone 4b, approximately, May 7-15, in 2017.

'Serendipity Elf' has Purple Based Foliage that didn't cover much of the base of the leaves, but was very dark. It was visible at least during and after flowering. -- HollyJohnson2017 -04-01 - 08 Aug 2017
