1970, Brown

'Wow' (Alta Brown, R. 1969) Seedling #M 1306-11. SDB, 12" (30 cm), Early bloom. Standards bright chrome yellow (Wilson 605); falls deep oxblood-red (823) with narrow margin of chrome yellow (605) about 1/8", spot is solid and smooth; bright orange beard. Seedling #M 393-2 (sibling of 'Sunny Heart' and 'Cartwheel') X 'Lilli-Var'. Brown's Iris 1970. Honorable Mention 1971, Award of Merit 1973.

Closed standards are bright chrome yellow; flaring falls are deep oxblood red with a narrow margin of chrome yellow; the spot is smooth solid color. Orange beard. The brightest of variegatas. $7.50.   • SDB 'Wow' was blooming at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, zone 4b, approximately, May 8-16, in 2017. There is some light purple coloring on the spathes, but I didn't see any Purple Based Foliage at the base of the leaves. -- HollyJohnson2017-04-01 - 08 Aug 2017
