'Congo Drums' (Walter Marx, R. 1956). SIB, 36" (91 cm). Late bloom. Color Class-RV1D, Very deep purple self. 'Caesar's Brother' X unknown. Marx 1956.

From Walter Marx Gardens catalog 1958: CONGO DRUMS (Marx 1956) Each 2.00; 3 for 5.00. This deepest of all purples with its velvety sheen imparts glowing beauty. The flowers are uniquely formed with extremely flaring falls adding to their distinctive character. 3 feet. Rather late.
