From Longfield Iris Farms catalog, 1956: ROYAL HERALD (Scheffy 1948). Handsome rich purple. The large dropping falls look almost like black velvet. Early. 40 inches. $2.50.
From Walter Marx Gardens catalog 1962: ROYAL HERALD (Scheffy 1948) Each 1.00; 3 for 2.50. A self in the richest of dark plum-purples, with drooping falls like black velvet. Early blooming. A noteworthy addition to any garden.
