■(SIB) 'Violet Joy'

1980, McEwen

'Violet Joy' ( Currier McEwen, R. 1980). Seedling T3 73/62(1). SIB (28 chromosome tetraploid), 27" (69 cm), Early midseason to late midseason bloom. Standards dark violet blue (RHS 89C); styles same; falls darker (89A). scarcely visible signal. Seedling T2 70/48(3): (('White Swirl' x 'Violet Flare') x ('Blue Brilliant' x unknown)) X seedling T1 68/9(1): ('White Swirl' x 'Polly Dodge'). McEwen 1980. Honorable Mention 1982.

From AIS Bulletin #238 July 1980 Introducing VIOLETJOY (T373/62): Tetraploid. EM to L. A sister of Dear Dianne and worthy of its highly acclaimed sib but different. Six-inch flowers of rich blue-violet with almost no signal. Large standards and falls give an exceptionally round form. Superb paren.t $25.00. Currier McEwen.
