(SPEC) Belamcanda chinensis (Linneaus) De Candolle

1805, Author De Candolle belamcanda Augustin Pyramus De Candolle, Japan, China, E. Russia in the Ussuri region, Taiwan and N. India. 24-40" (60-100 cm); Plants very similar in leaves and habit to Pardanthopsis. Yellowish or orange red flowers mottled with red or blackish-purple spots. The flowers opening in the morning are closed by evening, twisting into a tight linear spiral. Shiny round pea size shiny black seeds remaining attached for some time after pod opens, the cluster reminding one of an oversized blackberry for which it receives its common name. Synonyms; Blackberry Lily, Belamcanda punctata Moench; Belamcanda pampaninii Leveille; Balem-canda schularmani Rheede. Now Iris domestica
